"Gray Wolf"

Canvas Giclee (12x15)

On August 20, 1794 the Wyandot tribe took part in the Battle of Fallen Timbers in the Ohio Territories as many Native American tribes valiantly fought for their homelands and hunting lands. The battle was a crushing defeat for the Indians that eventually lead to the Greenville Treaty and the various tribes being displaced from their lands.

In this portrait I chose to focus on the strength and determination of the Wyandot. His face is painted with vermillion and black, his head is shaved leaving a roach characteristic of his tribe, and he is armed with unwavering determination. Thus, Gray Wolf is ready to meet and defeat the White intruders on the field of battle. May we embrace that same spirit as we face those, both foreign and domestic, who would dare threaten our hard won freedoms.
