His faith, fine art, and history are passions that drive Jack in his efforts to produce high quality and meaningful art. His artistic style is representational, utilizing various mediums including pen and ink, oils and pencil. Primarily depicting 18th century subject matter focusing on both our nation’s history and the people of that day, he thinks it is important that Americans never forget their heritage or the men and women who contributed to our nation’s greatness.
Jack’s personal history is rooted in the Deep South. Born and raised in Memphis, TN, he earned a BS degree in mathematics from Memphis State University in 1970, with a minor in drawing and painting. Additional art training includes formal commercial art instruction at the Burnley School of Professional Art as well as advanced illustration at The New School of Visual Concepts, both in Seattle. Jack has also studied under Tony Ryder of Santa Fe, NM and Henry Wingate of Madison, VA.
His previous experiences include employment as a production artist for a national magazine, a church and a Seattle print house as well as a freelance designer and illustrator. Following nine years of service in the U.S. Navy as an aviator, he flew for a major commercial airline for 22 years. Now retired, he continues to hone his skills as an artist. Jack also re-enacts the 18th century, with a strong interest in both the French and Indian and the Revolutionary Wars. This immersion in living history provides abundant subject matter as well as a unique perspective into the life and times of our forefathers.
Working in his new home studio enables Jack to stay closely connected with his wife, Karen, and his youngest son, John. The Cribbs also have an older son and daughter who have ‘flown the nest’. Jack’s future work will focus on refinement of his artistic skills as he explores America’s rich 18th century history, Christian depictions and commissions.
